: Nobody else thought it was weird that Sigourney Weaver's Avatar had a normal
: nose? What's up with that? And "unobtainium"? Seriously?
It wasn't a totally normal nose, as J242 pointed out, but one could easily chalk it up to her avatar being the first created since the whole avatar project was her baby. (Really just playing devil's advocate here, since something this minor doesn't even come close to bothering me. Remember, my generation grew up seeing the crap that John Woo tries to pull off during our formative years, so the minor stuff slides a little more easily)
: I ended up seeing it Christmas day, one day after a tonsillectomy. I totally
: agree with what everyone has said about the 3D and I also agree that a
: totally original plot is pretty much impossible anymore. But after 2 hrs I
: was ready for the movie to be over with. The last 40 minutes dragged for
: me. Could have been the surgery though. Overall, I thought it was good and
: a landmark for 3D movies. I don't think I'll watch it again though.
I kind of felt a bit of a lag between home tree's destruction and the climactic final battle, but it wasn't enough for me to disengage and want to be done. Maybe I was just enthralled by the Cinemark XD (which looks like realD meets IMAX)eye candy...
: Oh yeah, one last gripe, pretty specific to scientists: Sigourney Weaver's
: use of the autopipette was literally laughable. I saw the movie with my
: wife and my friend and all three of us are chemists and we couldn't help
: but laugh at what she was doing with it. I don't understand why
: directors/producer/etc. don't spend the extra money to learn these things.
: Seriously, I would have told them for free.
My guess is that with the volume of details of that nature in any given movie is high enough that it all gets delegated and something as inconsequential and unnoticeable as the proper use of an autopipette just slips through the cracks. Really, 99% of the people who saw that movie have no clue what an autopipette (or even a normal pipette) is.
