: Nobody else thought it was weird that Sigourney Weaver's Avatar had a normal
: nose? What's up with that? And "unobtainium"? Seriously?
Yeah, the unobtainium was a pretty weak name. That I'll definitely give you but that wasn't enough to ruin the film for me at all, it jsut gave me a moment of "really? Wow, laaaazy! ooh, but look at how it hovers in 3D!" lol I hadn't notices SW's avatar's nose but in looking at the various characters now I see what you mean. They gave her the somewhat feline flat-bottom of the nose but it wasn't nearly as wide as every other character's... Interesting, I hadn't noticed until you said something. ;)
: I ended up seeing it Christmas day, one day after a tonsillectomy. I totally
: agree with what everyone has said about the 3D and I also agree that a
: totally original plot is pretty much impossible anymore. But after 2 hrs I
: was ready for the movie to be over with. The last 40 minutes dragged for
: me. Could have been the surgery though. Overall, I thought it was good and
: a landmark for 3D movies. I don't think I'll watch it again though.
I've heard that the 3D works even better on "realD" systems so I'm planning on seeing it again on a flat screen versus the IMAX as there were bits that were hard to focus on in IMAX 3D and I'm pretty sure that if it comes out on BR with support for 3D LCDs/OLEDs then I will be getting a new TV to watch this. ;) Sheesh...
: Oh yeah, one last gripe, pretty specific to scientists: Sigourney Weaver's
: use of the autopipette was literally laughable. I saw the movie with my
: wife and my friend and all three of us are chemists and we couldn't help
: but laugh at what she was doing with it. I don't understand why
: directors/producer/etc. don't spend the extra money to learn these things.
: Seriously, I would have told them for free.
Hehehe, you are such a nit-picker. ;) I totally understand though. It's like watching any movie where they have a hacker trying to work on something or control a system, crazy WYSIWYG systems in 3D that only take all of two seconds to get into whatever the target supercomputer is and such. It's completely laughable (Yeah, I'm looking at you Hackers, Swordfish, The Italian Job, and more!) but they still keep doing it or some reason... I found the way they handled everything on District 9 really interesting where the Prawn scientist basically has this home-built network of old PCs all strung together in order to create something that could interface with his alien tech. D9 is pretty good, if you haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend it!
