: While it's predictable and you totally know what you're in for in terms of
: the story, it's a good film. Beyond the visual, the sound editing is
: superb, it's an engaging and entertaining storyline (even if it's
: predictable) the characters are relatable but the sheer epic scale of the
: film is something on the level of Lord of the Rings. The Na'vi dialect is
: a full language that was created for the film, it's setup for future films
: via other moons of the gas giant, etc, etc, etc... THe creatures, the
: flora and fauna, everything fits and it is more than impressive!
Thirded. I would note though, that there are really only 20-ish distinct possible plot lines to any story. At some point, it must be accepted that the unexpected, while entertaining, is not necessary. Honestly, the worst i've got to say about the movie is that after a 2nd viewing, I noticed that Sam Worthington broke his American (east coast?) accent a few times during his more intense speaking parts. Entirely forgivable, but definitely noticable if you're not as caught up in the spectacle of how amazing the rest of the film is.
: The 3D is a character of it's own and it's definitely the star of the show.
: There are times (watching it in IMAX 3D) where I got vertigo from the
: views, I've only experienced that before watching shutter goggle 3D IMAX
: at the Space Camp theater in Florida before. It's definitely an experience
: worth undertaking but use the bathroom first as it's a long film and every
: frame is a work of art.
Cinemark XD was great, and I really wish the IMAX up here had been up and running in time to show Avatar (though at $15 a ticket for XD I'm really not sure I'd be willing to spend much more to get a bigger screen and some slighly better sound).
: It's a good movie, it's no T2 or Aliens but it's certainly above and beyond
: True Lies or Titanic... It's James Cameron, I don't think he even knows
: how to make a "bad" movie. ;) If he decided to do an Alvin &
: the Chipmunks movie I'd see it. lol
I've got to disagree with you here. I would put it on par with Alien, and irrefutably head-and-shoulders above T2. I went back and watched T2 about 2 months ago and was far less impressed with it than I had been when I saw it 12 or 13 years ago... It is still a good film, but it doesn't hold a candle to Avatar, IMHO...
