Sony: the Microsoft of consumer electronics . . .

In Response To: Sony, a love/hate relationship (J242)

This is why I've never used Sony for recording purposes in the digital age. They're always trying to pull a Microsoft and lock people into their platform. They see digital technology as a means to ensnare customers, rather than as a means to provide a superior product that stands on its own merits. The sad irony is that many of their products would be marketable on technical merit alone, but are undesirable due to the vendor lock-in mechanisms Sony employs.

They still make good TVs, though. I just hope their execs don't figure out how to prevent the TVs from working with anything other than a Sony playback device. Then Sony will be totally worthless.
