: Huh, I loved Once Upon a Time in Mexico,
Didn't see it, so maybe its great.
: From Dusk Till Dawn was just plain fun
Of the movies he worked on, this is the best in my estimation. Still not what I would refer to as a great movie.
: Sin City was a breath of fresh air IMO.
...and in my opinion it was tediously unwatchable...
: Also his segment with the two little kids in Four Rooms was pretty damned
: hilarious. ;)
It was OK, but nothing that made me say "THAT's how ya directing."
: I think what I like so much about Rodriguez is his adoption and complete
: support for the digital formats over film. He's been one of the loudest voices
: in support of it and he does a really good job at stating his reasons and
: justifications against it's naysayers.
As you know, I'm all about the use of new technology, but let me just play devils advocate for a second here. If you film something in standard NTSC digitally, that's all it can ever be. If you actually film something on film you can go back and rescan it at a higher resolution (say HD). Resolutions can't help but improve over time. As they do movies shot on film will benefit from this. Movies shot digitally will just look older and crummier.
: Not much of a Finchner fan? I thought you really dug Seven
It was pretty good, but to some extent you can judge my measure of a movie by how many times I watch it. I've seen Seven once.
: and while Alien 3 is probably the chapter I liked the least in the series
Aliens, directed by what you would likely consider an "old school" director is my favorite in the series, and while I enjoyed Alien 3, I've seen Alien 3 exactly once, and have no burning desire to see it again.
: Fight Club is just a classic
In the classic sort of Worst Movie Ever kind o way.
: and the Game
I've tried to watch it about 4 times. One day I hope I will make it through it and enjoy it, but I can tell you that the first 45 minutes of it is really boring.
: Tarantino I dig as he's got a unique feel to his films that brings a level
: of reality to them. They are more snippets of life from a variety of
: different directions and views all tossed together into one tangled mess
: which ultimately works out in the end fairly nicely. Jackie Brown is a
: great example as is Pulp Fiction.
Can't come with you there. Every time I finish a Tarantino movie I have a sensation of not really caring about the money, but really wanting my two hours back because his films are pointless.
: What do you think about M. Night Shyamalan
Really liked both The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Haven't seen any of his others. I should though.
: or Steven Soderbergh?
Ocean's Eleven was AWESOME. Ocean's Twelve was pretty damn good. Solaris was fantastic. I guess I must like him though I haven't seen any other movies of his.
: another new fave in Christopher Nolan, man, that guy is
: good!
I greatly enjoyed Batman Begins and have high hopes for The Dark Night. I couldn't make it through Memento though.
: Any other new breed director's you're into?
None that I am aware of. I think I tend to prefer old school directing styles.
