: My first question would be: Have you tried using it to burn anything with any
: Apple software?
Yes, inserting a blank DVD or CD is registered through Finder and can be written to just like the internal CDRW burner. Also, inserting a DVD movie into the drive brings up DVD player without issue. :)
: Toast includes a shload of drivers for drives that the Apple OS doesn't.
: Almost any burner will work with Toast, the same is not usually true of
: Apple software.
: That being said if you want fairly inexpensive high quality drives that
: support Apple's software checkout what LaCie has to offer...
See that was what I was looking at originally but the only place I could get LaCie was a good town away (Bellevue or Tukwila) and from everything I've seen they tend to have a bit of a premium on their price comapred to other OEMs with lower overhead and higher distribution numbers. I paid 79.99, their external USB 2.0 unit (closest competitor for specs although it also has litescribe burning functionality which I neither want nor care about) is 89.99 and would have been a further drive during afternoon rush-hour times thus adding an additional loss of time and whatnot to my limited budget for the project.
I'm not arguing with the quality or anything but it's definitely easier to hit my local best buy than my local apple store because of their relative distances.
