Yeah, I keep meaning to put something together for the site, but I have mostly half-baked ideas and/or lack of money and/or time to work at it. I was originally thinking of a G5 --> ATX type project since my DYI G4 is starting to be too slow for me to do anything but Safari and Mail. Several things have precluded me from doing so: 1) Lack of available parts from eBay and other sources. I could buy the whole G5 (and may eventually end up doing that) and move the parts to an ATX case, but it's more fun to scrounge up all the parts separately. 2) For the $$ it would cost, I could get a souped up Intel Mac mini or iMac. 3) It may end up being a waste of money if it doesn't work. I'm a little worried with the cooling systems on the G5s. Even the early 1.6 and 1.8 GHz models, which would also be "hobbled" with PCI-X, rather than PCI-E. 4) It's not really an original idea. Pretty much the same as Tester's G4 in an ATX case project. What ever happened to that guy anyway?

I also thought about an audio project, looking at lossy compression effects. For example, I can't find any good information on what would happen if you want to (for example) take an iTMS song, burn it, then reimport that AIFF file as 128 kbps AAC. Seems that the easiest way would be to compare waveforms, but I can't seem to find software to do that. I've gone through ~10 cycles of 192 kbps MP3 --> WAV --> 192 kbps MP3 etc, and can't hear a difference, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

Other half-ideas include a Windows --> OS X FAQ and/or common Mac questions/issues. I find myself giving out the same information over and over to people I know, it'd be nice to just point them to a webpage. Might also be considered rude though.

That reminds me, I've been meaning to ask you to update the iMac repair page with my new email address. I'm trying to phase out the hotmail account and I still get emails now and then about the repair.

: I'm pretty certain I'm going to return it and wait for the update and buy the
: new one...

Smart move. You must have a really understanding girlfriend. I hope they put out the updated models soon. I'm going to Hawaii sept 8-20th and I'd like to have a nano for that trip.
