Mac OS X DP3 Screenshots Removed!

At the demand of Apple Legal we have removed the screenshots that accompanied our Mac OS X DP3 coverage. As many of you have never seen a letter from Apple legal, here is a quote that will give you the general idea of the tone:

"We demand that you cease and desist from disseminating Apple's copyrighted and proprietary screen shots on all websites and servers under your control. This includes any hyperlink to other locations where the material may be available."

The NeXT MacOS: Part 3
Mike S. has really outdone himself this time. A nice big informative article with lots of screenshots. Enjoy the GUI (Pronounced Gooey of course) chocolately goodness that is NeXT and some side by side comparisons with the current MacOS.

Otaku picks up right where he left off in his discussion of UNIX and it's pertinence to Mac OS X. This time he explains to us which UNIX apps will and will not run under OS X, and how Apple should make use of X Windows.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer, said: "The merger of these two sites will create an Internet platform-advocacy superpower second to none. With this move, Apple will continue its lead in factual and accurate reporting."

Todd Arneson, founder of Ihateapple.com, said: "As much as I despise Apple, this is a move for the better. MacOpz and Ihateapple.com being under the same roof which will allow us to carry out such nerdy actions as launching water balloon wars at each other during lunch. And the food fights... the food fights will be second to none."

Jason Buck, site administrator and founder of MacOpz.com, said: "MacOpz.com and Ihateapple.com are the leading platform advocacy sites on the Internet today. By coupling our user base, our writers, and Apple's colossal resources, we have the potential to become a web portal on everyone's desktop."

Stephan Jones, also a site administrator and founder of MacOpz, said: "If you think sites like MacNN and ZDnet's MacCentral are big, you haven't seen anything. By providing an outlet for both Macintosh and PC users alike to speak their peace, we are filling a market that is, at best, sorely lacking. When you think "I like my Mac.", or, "I like my PC.", you'll think of iAdvocacy.com. We're going to give all the other platform-advocacy sites out there a run for their money."

Founded in 1998, Ihateapple.com will move its operations from Scottsdale, AZ to Cupertino, CA; and MacOpz.com, founded in 1999, will move its operations from Anchorage, AK, to Cupertino, CA, as the two sites merge.

Details of the cost of the merger are not being released, said Apple CFO Fred Anderson.

A word on MacCards

I cannot believe Apple's sheer and utter disrespect for the admiration such loyal Mac users as Simon Jones have given them. He made a pro-Macintosh site and spent many hours and exerted much energy on promoting Apple because he thought they were unique, and had a very attractive distinct edge in the industry. It saddens me that any company could threaten legal action on it's own enthusiasts. When has Harley davidson taken down fan sites that use that pervasive eagle emblem? Have they barged in on biker BBQ's and told them to shut the picnic down? NO!! So stand up!!! Fight back for MacCards!! I request that each and every one of you who reads this pass it on to a friend and fire off an email to Apple requesting that they overturn such a brash decision. It is ludicrous in the extreme to think that anyone could mistake MacCards for iCards. Even if it wasn't outrageous, all that Apple needed to do was have Simon place a disclaimer on his web site so that those few who might be confused enough to think that MacCards is iCards would know better? If Apple has such a hard time with people using the Mac logo, then have them challenge the Mac SurfShop and every other damn Mac site that utilizes the Apple Logo. I Considered putting it on MacOpz just to piss Apple off for what they've done, but I would be ashamed to wear the emblem of such an inconsiderate corporation...

Internal MacOpz Changes

A couple of changes have occurred here at MacOpz. Firstly, as we hope you didn't notice (The idea was for it to be a transparent change) we switched hosts. We are now with Internet Communications (ICOM) instead of Pair. It is less expensive, seems to be just as fast and reliable, and finally - it offers CGI scripting. Since we now have CGI scripting we are hosting OUR OWN forum instead of sending you offsite (Even though it always still looked like you were on site previously, now you truly will be.)

MacOpz to Change Content Direction

Recently, Crosis and I had something of a revelation. MacOpz began merely as a free forum, hosted by InsideTheWeb for free. It evolved from that into small website hosted by freeservers. Then, Crosis and I took the first real risk by purchasing and setting up MacOpz.com. Originally, we fancied ourselves journalists, bringing you the latest news, along with a side dish of entertaining columns. The revelation was this: There are already established Macintosh news websites, most of the sites pertaining to the mac are either involved in news or sales. This did not mean that we couldn't make it in the news market, it just made it that much harder, similar to domestic news competing with ABC.

Jason Buck, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of MacOpz explains the change, "There are millions of Mac news sites. Several of them do the job fantastically and leave little room for improvement. Not to say we couldn't do it, but why do it if someone else is already doing a fine job? Any improvements we could offer over some of these sites is marginal, and would hardly affect the Mac community. MacNN, MacCentral, Macintouch are sort of like the 'CNN Headline News' of the Mac world. We want to be the '60 Minutes' of the Mac world, with SpaceDog Spiff as our Andy Rooney."

MacOpz has seen a number of changes lately. The entire site was redesigned. The forum changed locations and gained the look of the rest of the site. A board specifically for the MacOpz team to work with each other was set up. We added a new column and will soon add more. Finally, we fed Spacedog Spiff. The format change is simply a piece of an evolution to a better MacOpz, and a better Mac community.
